    Sucrose structure formula (table sugar)
    Don A. Carlson 09-26-07

Why is it that each time I leave the doctor's office I feel defeated,  sometime I feel like I got run over by a truck.
This is often the case when I learn something new, something else wrong,  something else we have to test for or something they just don't know. Most of the time,  it is with my youngest,  but this time it was with my daughter.
So, the news today are fructose, sucrose, and lactose.
My daughter stomach hurts whenever ever she eats anything sweets. from juice to apples to a drop of maple syrup, to plantains. we do not purchase anything with corn syrup in it due to the fact that my son is allergic to corn. We do not use regular sugar, just agave.

Fructose, glucose, lactose, maltose, sucrose are types of sugars. Fructose is found in fruit. Glucose is what the body uses for energy. Lactose is in milk and Maltose is pretty much in everything, mostly starches. Sucrose is in starches like potatoes, pasta and also fruits.

I found this interesting piece of information, if you are lactose intolerant and stay away from milk, great!. Unfortunately, lactose is a food additive and manufacturers are not required to label it.

Here is my conclusion, my daughter has a sugar enzyme deficiency. She cannot break down sugar whether it is from starch or fruit or dairy. She cannot eat fruits because it hurts her stomach, the sweeter it is the worst it gets. She was sick just the other day because of gummy bears.

So what is next, LOTS OF PRAYER and we will wait to see what the result shows and see what the treatment recommendation of the doctor will be. There is something that can be added to your food to allow the body to digest fructose and lactose. This is not a simple matter of just staying away from the food that contains these stuff, because, well, they are in everything.  Meanwhile, I will look into other alternative treatments. But first thing first, testing.

    LACTASE DEFICIENCY
People who are intolerant of lactose also have classic symptoms which include abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Other allergic symptoms have been recorded, not the least of which was asthma, from the ingestion of lactose-containing products. You should know that the FDA allows the addition of lactose as a food additive without labeling. Do not think that your children are safe if they are lactose intolerant just because they do not drink milk.

Protease digests protein. Protease deficiency creates alkaline excesses in the blood
Protein maldigestion leads to a toxic colon. People in this category often have problems in the area of the descending colon (lower right quadrant of the abdomen). This includes developing appendicitis and even more serious problems such as mucous colitis and even colon cancer....Protease deficient women are predisposed to PMS. The only people who cannot tolerate protease are those who suffer from ulcers, gastritis or hiatus hernias. The already damaged mucosal tissue cannot handle the extra acidity from the digested protein.

Carbohydrate Intolerance is the inability of the small intestine to completely process the nutrient carbohydrate (a classification that includes sugars and starches) into a source of energy for the body.

Does she react to Stevia as well? Have you tried that?

No, I have not try that, but she is ok with a little bit of agave, so I don't want to rock the boat. And if I understand correctly, I think Agave is less proccessed...not sure, all these things are confusing sometime.
